Featuring more than 6.000 registrants, hundreds of exhibitors, and countless educational sessions and networking events, Brownfields 2009 is the premier deal-making event for the full spectrum of redevelopment stakeholders.  First introduced in 2004, the Brownfields Transaction Forum brings together buyers and sellers of brownfields properties from all over the United States.  For 2009, we're planning even more opportunities for deal makers to interact, access property information, gather business intelligence on redevelopment-ready sites, and meet potential business partners.

Special Renewable Energy Presentation - Musheer Robinson

What impact will low-carbon fuel standards, carbon markets and greenhouse gas regulations have on renewable energy production in the gulf south, particularly in Louisiana?  What are the latest technical developments and financial incentives that can be leveraged in deploying renewable energy projects on brownfield sites?  Learn about the real challenges and successes encountered in developing a renewable energy project on a brownfield site.

  • Brownfields Property Database - Deal making starts months before the conference, as available properties go online in a user-friendly Google Maps-based listing service available only at Brownfields 2009. This unique technology platform allows buyers to preview properties prior to the conference to identify and seek-out high-priority targets.  Please also visit EPA’s RE-Powering America’s Land Google Earth Interactive Mapping Tool, which enables users to search for potentially contaminated land and mine sites with wind, solar, biomass and geothermal renewable energy generation potential.

  • Premier Property Displays -  Some of the best available properties in the United States will be on display for the entire three days of the conference in the Brownfields Transaction Forum property gallery.
  • Networking at the Brownfields Transaction Forum - Brownfields 2009 will feature two networking events for buyers and sellers to meet, discuss potential deals, and jump-start the business of brownfields redevelopment. The event will include representatives of for-sale properties  as well as developers, investors, and brokers. Contacts and property listings from this special event will be made available to all attendees.
  • Advisory Consultations - Members of the multi-disciplinary local planning team, with many years of experience transacting brownfield deals, will be providing free consultations for participants in the Brownfields Transaction Forum. These consultations will allow this expert group of real estate, legal, environmental and finance experts to review information about individual brownfield sites and to make recommendations about how best to position them in the marketplace to maximize value and return on investment. Each consultation will last approximately 15 minutes and a sign-up sheet will be available at all Brownfields Transaction Forum events, beginning with the kickoff educational session taking place on Monday from 10:45 to noon in the Transaction Forum Classroom.
  • Education and Knowledge Building - The conference features a rich program of educational sessions on brownfields real estate, financing and financial risk management, redevelopment approaches, vertical construction, and end uses.

With estimates suggesting there are more than one million brownfields sites in the United States, events at the Brownfields Transaction Forum are sorely needed. This premier event specifically brings buyers and sellers of brownfield properties together.

"The Brownfields Transaction Forum 2009 is a great opportunity for owners, investors, brokers, cities, and economic development officials to meet and discuss how to redevelop brownfield sites.  It allows the key players to brainstorm ideas and learn from case studies in other communities. I encourage everyone to participate in the Brownfields Transaction Forum." - Steve Collins, BTF09 Committee Member, Environmental Liability Transfer

Information for Property Owners

The Brownfields Transaction Forum deal-making event is the perfect venue for sellers of brownfields properties to showcase their sites to prospective purchasers.  Take advantage of new educational programming, dedicated networking opportunities with potential investors, free advisory consultations, and an online property listing of your sites, and put your contaminated properties back into productive use.  This is your best opportunity to meet with developers, investors, and brokers looking to purchase contaminated sites from all across the country.

How Does the Transaction Forum Work?

  • Property owners should submit detailed information about each brownfield site they plan to  present at the Brownfields Transaction Forum by November 1st.  Portfolios containing multiple sites are encouraged.  As soon as your site information is entered via the website it is displayed on our Google Mapping Feature!

  • Property owners and their representatives will set up information displays about their properties and the communities in which they are located in the Brownfields Transaction Forum area near the Exhibit Hall in the Morial convention center. Display spaces will consist of tackboards 8' wide and 4' high for posters with tables underneath for handouts and other informational materials. Please arrange to bring materials with you for set up on Monday, November 16 anytime between 8:00 am and 1:45 pm.

  • All Transaction Forum registrants will be given color-coded name badge ribbons with their Brownfields 2009 registration materials that will identify them as participants. Ribbons will indicate whether an attendee is representing available properties or is seeking prospective properties.
  • Property owners or their representatives should plan to remain at the display areas to meet with prospective purchasers who will be circulating through the Transaction Forum from 3:00-5:00 pm on Monday and from 1:30 - 4:00 pm on Tuesday.

  • Property owners are encouraged to bring more than one property to the Transaction Forum, although most just create a single display and provide detailed handouts about each individual property.
