Staff arrived over the course of the past week, but many attendees made their way to New Orleans this weekend for the start of the Brownfields 2009 conference. Today, we're offering two mobile workshops, two training workshops, and three films. Topics for these range from greening your government to revitalizing once-thriving suburbs.
Of particular note is today's mobile workshop at Andrew H. Wilson Elementary School, which was under water for two weeks after Hurricane Katrina. In the years since, it has been renovated and expanded to meet LEED Gold certification standards. Brownfields participants are helping landscape the property with native and other well-adjusted plants to get it looking good before the school reopens in January.
